I had never tried speed dating until my friend Andrea brought it up. She told me she had done speed dating three times already and it was a blast. I could not imagine myself doing that. How can you really tell a lot about a person just by talking to them for five minutes? Sure first impressions mean a lot but they are not always right.
After much thought about it I decided to go with her just to keep her quiet. My boyfriend and I had broken up three months ago and I had no luck at finding a guy that I really wanted to see. Everyone I went out with reminded me too much of Josh. Pete acted just like him, and Ryan had the same color hair. Kyle was in the same business as him, and Toby dressed too much like him. I needed a fresh start so maybe speed dating was what I needed.
As we walked in, I was impressed at the turnout. There were ten tables set up with some very handsome looking guys sitting at them. As we started, my first guy was Tony. He was shy and did not have lots to say so I had to start the conversation. I asked him what he did for a living and his reply was that he was currently unemployed. I was not too thrilled with him, and was glad when it was time to change.
The next guy was gorgeous, but his personality went with that. He was cocky and arrogant and I could not get away from him fast enough. Why did I agree to come to this with Andrea? Two down and both were losers in my book.
Jess, my third guy could not stop talking about his pet snake. Terry could only talk about himself. So by the time I sat down next to Tim, I had about had it. Until he started asking me questions.
"What is one thing you want out of a guy?"
"Well, I want someone who is passionate about the things that matter most in life. Family and hopefully me," I stated.
"That is how I feel," Tim said. "I did not really want to come here, but my cousin asked me to come with him. I think these speed dating courses are just for horny guys looking for sex."
"Really, " I said. "My friend convinced me to come. Normally I do not do things like this." As we talked it seemed like the time flew by us. Soon it was time for us to be separated, even though neither of us were done talking. After finishing with the rest of the guys, I went back to Tim. He was eager to talk to me and asked me out for a cup of coffee. I accepted glad that the speed dating had turned out in a way that I would have never expected. To this day Tim and I are still a couple.
