Free online dating is one of the most popular things on the internet these days it seems. Ranging from the normal to the bizarre, men looking for women, women looking for men, men looking for other men, and women looking for other women. All fine and dandy, but then it seems to stretch into the bizarre with husbands looking for a swinging adorable wife, or horny house wives looking for handsome swinging husbands. Free online dating is truly something almost out of this world. Although in the world of free online dating one has to watch out for what he or she is getting themselves into. They may find themselves getting into a nightmarish blind date with some weird creepy old guy posing as a hip young 20-something.

This used to be a major problem back in the mid-90s when free online dating was first coming into it's own. People were going absolutely crazy over the idea of meeting their "soul mate" on the internet, you could be in Kansas in a steamy internet affair with your hot Russian "girlfriend". Fresh off of the "Hot Phone Chat Lines" that were so popular in the 80s, the internet dating scene was destined to be something huge. Unfortunately, alot of people took advantage of it, and to this day still do, using small white lies like lying about their age, height, or weight to something extreme like claiming they're a professional Hollywood photographer, and they're inviting you over for a session. (Insert shiver here!)

These days sites like eHarmony have done a good job at legitimately setting up couples. Unfortunately, with the terrible image the online dating community got itself in the 90s hasn't gone away. So many people look down on online dating, as a shameful way to potentially find love. I've tried online dating a few times myself, and what grew out of just a simple online friendship became an intimate in-person relationship that lasted for well over a year. So first hand I can definitely say that it's a legitimate way to try and find some sort of happiness in the dating world. Those phone chats I mentioned earlier, that were "oh so the rage" in the 80s are actually making a comeback themselves. It seems during late night programming blocks all you see are commercials for the newest "steamy phone chat line".

After the bad rep online dating got for itself, I can only wonder if phone chat dating has been looked down upon the same.
