Tell me a Story

When a very close friend of mine invited me and my new boyfriend round to her house for an evening meal, of course I accepted right away. After all, I'd known Clare for years how was I to know the evening would take a sinister turn. At first my boyfriend, Dan didn't want to go. He'd never met Clare or her husband and he said he would feel like he was being interrogated. He always said that meeting a girlfriends friends was worse than meeting her parents, friends were always harder to achieve a level of approval. I told him he had nothing to worry about, that he was handsome, funny and very intelligent. My friends would love him just as much as I did.

We arrived just after 7 o'clock and dinner was already set out on the table so we sat down to enjoy the evening ahead. About half way through the main course I could suddenly feel something brush against my thigh under the table. The tickle sensation made me giggle out loud. I felt embarrassed that Dan would pick a time like this to get frisky with me so when Clare asked me what I was laughing at I made up a story about a joke I'd heard that day at work. A bit further into the meal I felt something tickle my leg again but this time I realised that there was no way It could be Dan because he couldn't possibly reach from where he was sitting. This left only one other person it could be, Clare's husband Phil!

I was horrified that he would do something like that and I decided I had to tell Clare. I helped her clear the table and went into the kitchen to help with dessert. As soon as we were in there she started on a full appraisal of Dan. She commented on how handsome he was and how lucky I was to have met somebody so wonderful. I felt really bad when I told her what Phil had been doing under the table at dinner but she just laughed at me and said "well, what's a little tickle under the table among friends?" I didn't know how to feel about that so I asked her how she would feel If Dan had done the same to her. Her response shocked me beyond belief. She said that she would have welcomed it and much more besides especially from a man as handsome as him. She then went on to invite me to spend a little more time with Phil so that she could get to know Dan more intimately. I didn't know what to say, in all the years I'd known Clare and Phil I had never suspected that they were swingers. I went into the dining room and simply told Dan we were leaving immediately. He was a bit shocked but could obviously tell I was serious.

Later that evening I explained the whole story to Dan. He just smiled and said "I told you friends were more difficult to get along with than parents!"
